As you know, my creative pursuits are always leading me to exciting new horizons. Well, my latest endeavor is something I'm thrilled about. A few months ago, I began exploring AI platforms, namely ChatGPT and Midjourney. Partly because, as a college professor, it's my job to stay at the forefront of knowledge and understand these groundbreaking tools, and not just for cheating. But also because, well, I'm a total geek for this kind of stuff! It's just so me, right?
I've been drawn to chatbots since I was a kid, the earliest I remember was tinkering with a computer game I loved called Life and Death in the Brain in the 90's. The speed with which they have evolved is astounding. It was like stepping into a playground where nerdy meets fun in the best possible way.
This delightful exploration sparked a side project that's been a pure joy: Artifex Index Magazine. Think of it as an AI Art Zine, where human creativity dances with AI capabilities, creating something wonderfully unique. I've also started a blog: https://www.artifexindex.com/blog that goes hand in hand with the zine, a space where I share snippets from Artifex Index.
The first post in the series, AI Cinema Reviews is "Ernest Goes to Jail," a movie that, despite its comedic exterior, casts a rather surprising light on the human condition and the intricacies of the American justice and penal system.
If you're curious (and I hope you are), head over to www.artifexindex.com or follow @artifexindex on Instagram. It's a little offbeat, a touch quirky, but that's what makes it so endearing. And guess what? The printed first edition is coming out soon!
Stay tuned, folks. Here's to enjoying the ride!
